The Gown: A Novel of the Royal Wedding

By Jennifer Robson
Lexile = ?

I have to admit, this was a personal guilty pleasure buy for me. My daughter is a fashion major and I thought she would LOVE to read about the creation of the most famous wedding gown in history. Well, she didn't even give it a try, but I LOVED it and the book has been well read in the Ridgeline Library!

The Gown is a double time-line novel. The reader is following a modern story whcih then flashbacks into the historical tale. Heather MacKenzie has been gifted some beautiful embroidered flowers from her dying grandmother. Heather's grandmother had never spoken of her life back in Britian during the war.

I have been watching The Crown on Netflix, which covers much of the same history. The Gown, however, is all about the making of the actual wedding gown and amazing work by teams of seamstresses in the workshops of London. So interesting! This was the fairytale wedding of the century and Robson has taken a deep dive into the story behind the story.
