Please browse here to find books that I think are worth your time.... or are real stinkers. I will let you know what I REALLY think of what I am reading. You might not find the newest and most popular books here, but I would LOVE it if you find something unexpectedly great!

I will indicate on each post the Lexile level of the book.

The Accidental Beauty Queen

By Teri Wilson
Lexile = ?

Let's start with a definition: TROPE:a common or overused theme or device : cliché.

Now let's read the "back flap" where we get a quick overview of this book: Charlotte Gorman loves her job as an elementary school librarian, and is content to experience life through the pages of her books. Woefully unprepared for the glittery world of hair extensions, false eyelashes, and push-up bras, Charlotte realizes, after walking a mile in her twin's sky-high stilettos, there might be more to the pageant circuit than just a sparkly crown . . .

Cliché? Oh yes. That doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy this read; I just wish that I wrote it!

Then I read that the author writes for the Hallmark Channel. Makes sense. The Accidental Beauty Queen is a feel good story that ends with everything all tied up with a big happy bow. Like a Hallmark movie. You won't be any smarter when you finish, but you might feel warm and fuzzy inside. Like a Hallmark movie.
