Please browse here to find books that I think are worth your time.... or are real stinkers. I will let you know what I REALLY think of what I am reading. You might not find the newest and most popular books here, but I would LOVE it if you find something unexpectedly great!

I will indicate on each post the Lexile level of the book.

Al Capone Does My Homework

By Gennifer Choldenko
Lexile = 600

I bought the Al Capone series for Ridgeline mostly for nostalgic reasons. It really isn't written for high school students. But it is such a great series!

Moose's father has just got a new job as a guard at the infamous Alcatraz Prison, which sits on an island in San Francisco Bay. Until it was closed in 1963, Alcatraz actually was a federal penitentiary that housed the worst of the worst, and that included Al Capone. Moose and his family actually live in the guards' quarters at the prison in this funny, historical peek into life on "the Rock". The warden's daughter, Piper, is continually plotting some adventure and Moose and his disabled sister, Natalie, get caught up in some of the trouble.

If you missed this in middle school, pick it up now for a quick read.
