I purchased some great biographies for this new library. Often, biographies found in schools aren't that great, lets be honest. I am always on the look out for engaging, real memoirs. This one actually reads like a stand-up comedy routine. I loved it.
Little Firoozeh moved to the United States with her family when she was only seven. Her father had been to university in the states, and had great memories of his time here. He wanted his family to have a similarly wonderful American experience. The intersection of cultures creates lots of opportunities for humor here.
Firoozeh (who changed her name to Julie for school) recalls trips to Disneyland, adventures trying new foods, and assimilation of other family members.
This is an interesting peek inside what it feels like to be an immigrant.
