By Julie Murphy
Lexile = 730
I'm proud to report that I discovered this book series (of 2) before it was a Netflix movie! It is an easier "sell" now that Dumplin' has made it to the small screen. Read my review of Dumplin' HERE.
Puddin' picks up shortly after the end of Dumplin'. Millie Michalchuk is a lot like Willowdean from the first book; her mother sends her to "fat camp" each summer, but Millie has decided that this year she will put her foot down and not go. Meanwhile, she is working at the Uncle's fitness center. Callie Reyes, the very popular dance captain, is forced to also work there. They become reluctant "friends" and discover they have more in common than they thought.
If I had any criticism of this book, it would be that it is too much like the first one. A few twists and turns are there, but it felt like another time around the block. Murphy is a great author; I hope she finds another song to sing.
And watch a trailer for the Dumplin' movie HERE.
