When Dimple Met Rishi

By Sandhya Menon
Lexile = 700

Dimple (yes. that is her real name) is the daughter of very traditional Indian American parents. They believe that Dimple should go to college just to find a suitable husband to settle down with. Well, Dimple does NOT agree. She begins to think that maybe her parents are on her side when they agree to send her to an elite summer program for wanna-be web developers. She is super disappointed to find out as soon as she arrives that it is all a ploy to get her to meet the boy they have arranged for her to marry!

Rishi is nearly as traditional as his parents and thinks that an arranged marriage to Dimple is a great idea. He immediately approaches her and introduces himself as her future husband. MANY cringeworthy moments follow. Dimple hates the whole situation and so she hates Rishi as well.

But.... this is young adult fiction, so you know things will turn around quickly. Dimple and Rishi become partners for the summer camp. We find out that Rishi's life isn't as clearly mapped out as even he thinks.

When Dimple Met Rishi is a bit predictable, but there are a few twists and turns on the way to a happy ending. Watch an interview with the author HERE.
