Please browse here to find books that I think are worth your time.... or are real stinkers. I will let you know what I REALLY think of what I am reading. You might not find the newest and most popular books here, but I would LOVE it if you find something unexpectedly great!

I will indicate on each post the Lexile level of the book.
To find out more about Lexile levels, go HERE.

Use the labels list on the right side of the screen to find a title about something you are interested in. You can also search by Lexile levels.

Happy Reading!

Pride

By Ibi Zoboi
Lexile = 760

Zoboi has been a finalist for the National Book Award in Young Adult Fiction. She is best known for American Street, published in 2017. She writes about race and attempts to expand her reader's often limited view of black America. Pride is a reimagining of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

In this version, the Darcy boys move in across the street from the Benitez family and their four daughters. Sounds familiar, right? Add a meddling mother, money, and girls with an attitude and you have this new tale. I keep this novel in the romance section, so you know that love is the backdrop of it all. I liked best that I was a few chapters in before I got the Pride and Prejudice connections. (I know... I'm slow, right?)

Watch a very interesting clip with the author showing the real neighborhood that is the setting of Pride HERE.
